This week in the sports media and marketing ecosystem, Amadí Tídíane Thiam joins USA Today, Chipper Jones inks deal to join the ESPN broadcast booth, and Puja Vohra has moved to Showtime.

Josh Lyons joins Entercom as Social Media Manager
Josh Lyons joins the #smsports community, taking on a role as social media manager at Entercom for Radio.com Sports. Prior to joining Entercom and Radio.Com, Josh served as a digital marketing coordinator for Commexis where he worked on a number of content & social strategies and co-hosted “The Buyer’s Journey” podcast. Josh is also the Co-Founder of The Phifth Quarter, an online sports brand that covers the Philadelphia 76ers and Delaware Blue Coats.
Amadí Tídíane Thiam joins USA Today as Social Media Strategist
Amadí Tídíane Thiam has joined USA Today Sports as a social media strategist. Thiam has experience in a number of different sectors including communications, social, and most recently editing, working as the Lead Editor for Gilt Edge Soccer Marketing. Previously, Thiam worked for Copa90, The Athletic Soccer, U.S. Open Cup, and Howler Magazine.
Chipper Jones joins the ESPN broadcast booth
Chipper Jones and the worldwide leader in sports have agreed to a new broadcasting deal. Jones, a Hall of Fame baseball player and Atlanta Braves legend, will join ESPN’s baseball broadcasting team serving as an analyst for 20 Wednesday Night Baseball games throughout the course of the year. This will not be Jones’ first time in the ESPN baseball booth, as he’s been a guest on the program as recently as 2019. Jones will replace now Chicago Cubs Manager, David Ross.
Frank Pulice, Mel Raines, and Todd Taylor of Pacers Sports & Entertainment Promoted to EVP
Frank Pulice, a 9-year vet of Pacer Sports & Entertainment was promoted to EVP of Legal Counsel, broadening his role in a time of vast growth. Mel Raines has been promoted to EVP of Corporate Communications, Community Engagement, and Facility Operations. In addition to her new role, Raines will serve as the president of the host committee for NBA All-Star 2021. Todd Taylor will now serve as EVP, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer where he will oversee sales and marketing efforts for the Pacers and Indiana Fever and will also oversee business operations for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, PS&E Broadcasting Group and Pacers Gaming.
Showtime restructures its Marketing Department with hiring of Puja Vohra
Puja Vohra has joined Showtime as the EVP of Marketing and Strategy. In her new role, Vohra will oversee the company’s new focus on performance-based marketing and manage a variety of disciplines including program marketing, media, promotions, digital strategy and social media as well as oversee a new marketing strategy division. Vohra joins Showtime from BSE Global where she served as the Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing all marketing, creative and digital efforts for the owner of the Brooklyn Nets, Barclays Center and NY Liberty.
Leah Rachel takes her talents to the University of Maryland
Leah Rachel has joined the University of Maryland as an Assistant Director of Video Production. Rachel will look to build off of her previous collegiate athletic experience. Prior to joining the Terps, Rachel worked at Liberty University as the Assistant Director of Social for Game On LU, a media source for Liberty University athletics while also serving as a photographer for Liberty University.
David Gavant joins WSC Sports’ Business Development Team
David Gavant has been tapped to join WSC Sports’ Business Development team where he will help push the groundbreaking artificial intelligence brand forward. Prior to joining WSC Sports, Gavant worked for a number of sports brands and properties including Monumental Sports & Entertainment, WinnersView.com, and most recently served as the Principal of MadCat Films where he worked with clients such as NBC and IMAX.
Taryn Carroll laces up her hockey skates
Taryn Carroll has joined the New York Rangers of the NHL as a Senior Coordinator of Digital Content. Prior to joining MSG and the Rangers, Carroll worked for the Clemson Tigers as an Associate Director of Creative Solutions working on a number of initiatives including social media campaigns where she built up Clemson Football’s TikTok following to 200K. At Clemson, Carroll rose the corporate ladder serving in three roles over a span of three years.
