"Bring it Home" - Denver Nuggets Championship Docuseries
The 6th Annual Awards
- Best Documentary: Long-Form
ABOUT THIS ENTRY
“Bring it Home,” which is narrated by star guard Jamal Murray, chronicles the Denver Nuggets’ championship 2022-23 season in rich detail. The NBA Entertainment original content series offers an exclusive behind the scenes look at Denver’s first NBA Finals win in franchise history. The nine-part docuseries captured the team’s season-long journey and delivered never-before-seen post-game interviews and footage, including Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray visiting their home countries – Serbia and Canada, respectively.
How does this represent “Excellence in Engagement”?
New product offerings gave us an opportunity to showcase Bring It Home and deepen fan engagement. In addition to making the series available globally, we streamed every episode in the NBA App for fans to watch as a full series ahead of the Nuggets’ ring ceremony on opening night – finding alignment with a key moment in time during the NBA season.
Objective
With the Denver Nuggets coming off an NBA title, the league embraced the opportunity to give fans a unique glimpse at the key moments that defined their season. On their way to hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy, the Nuggets had to prove themselves at every step from the start of the regular season through their playoff run.
The NBA placed a focus on showcasing the personalities of the players and coaches who were at the center of the team’s success—after all, those were the voices fans would most be interested in hearing from. This included Nikola Jokic, a two-time league MVP from Serbia who was drafted in the 2nd round; Jamal Murray, a budding star scorer from Canada who overcame a devastating knee injury; and head coach Michael Malone, who helped the team overcome adversity and maintain its confidence en route to an NBA title.
Narrated by star guard Jamal Murray, the entire Denver Nuggets championship season is documented from the perspective of one the integral members of the team. NBA Entertainment cameras were there from the start when training camp tipped off as Jokic and Murray were reunited to form one of the most potent duos in the NBA.
Strategy & Execution
The current generation of sports fans seeks content that goes beyond what they see in-game—from exclusive access and behind-the-scenes footage to the superstar perspective.
As part of the league’s commitment to delivering unprecedented access, we leveraged striking graphic design, a daily release cadence, and programming placement to ensure that we retained fan attention during the offseason. We also utilized artificial intelligence to translate episodes and offer the series in multiple languages for our international fans.
