Blake Proehl: Right Where You Need To Be
The 6th Annual Awards
- Best Use of Visual Storytelling
ABOUT THIS ENTRY
Blake Proehl was undrafted to the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. He was placed on injured reserve on August, 16, 2021. While rehabbing his knee, Blake discovered his love for music. Music has been an important part of his healing process and journey. Blake had his first headline show on July 15 at Fine Line in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
His Grandma "Nana" pushed him to try out for American Idol, and now Katy Perry calls him Top 10 on the show.
Minnesota Vikings photographer, Alli Rusco, visually tells the story of Blake's compelling and inspirational musical journey to that first headline show at the Fine Line on the Vikings website.
How does this represent “Excellence in Engagement”?
This project gave Blake Proehl a voice and allowed fans to see who he is off the field. It pushes the boundaries of using photos to showcase players off the field on social platforms.
Objective
The overall objective of the project was to give our player a voice and showcase his personality off the field. Through the story we were able to tell Blake’s story of discovering music and using it to overcome a season ending injury.
Strategy & Execution
The process began with asking Blake if he would be willing to let us photograph and film him working in the recording studio. From there we continued to have discussions and he eventually ended up headlining his own show and invited us to gather content from it to better tell his story.
