ABOUT THIS ENTRY
The creative concept and idea was to show an almost impossible angle without using a drone. I wanted to make the image dynamic and impactful for the viewr to say, "how was this shot taken?" and make people think about the image.
How does this represent “Excellence in Engagement”?
For me, this shot pushes the boundries for photographers especially in Hong Kong/Asia where I am based—hopefully engaing viewers and clients to show creatitivity and to think outside of the box rather than soley rely on drones and cameras attached to the subject.
Objective
The goal was to showcase a different side of wakeboarding—not the usual angles. To create this challenging shot, it needed perfect timing, speed of the boat, and height of the subject in relation to myself. Because I was towed roughly 1-2 meters behind the athlete, it creates the illusion that this may be a drone or Go Pro attached to the athlete—however it is not.
This photograph was taken by hand held using Sony α9 in a waterproof housing.
Strategy & Execution
My strategy was diffucult yet simple—to showcase extreme angles and the wow factor by providing an angle not commonly seen or taken by most photographers. The creative concept and idea was to be in the red bull style of image—extreme.
