Bracketology is Big Business
After much fanfare, CBS went back to basics for its Selection Sunday show and the ratings followed suit. Zion aside, this year feels different. It's finally legal (in some places) to bet on March Madness, and media companies from NESN to The Action Network are ready to capitalize on the country’s (already) most heavily bet-on sporting event.
With the 2022 Olympics already in hand, NBC pulled off the old Super Bowl switcheroo with CBS, deciding it would be easier to broker “combo” ad deals rather than competing against other networks for similar sponsors. On the other side of the coin, DAZN is trying to siphon as much money out of TV as possible through its new ad business.
Where Amazing Happens
The future of sports is: where ordering a drink at the Cavs game is as easy as sending an iMessage; when MSG Network lets fans choose between Filayyy and Breen to make the Overtime call, and catching Dame Time in real-time only costs .99 cents... and yes, you might have bet on the game.
This week in sports advertising, Buffalo Wild Wings introduces the Jewel Stool, class is in session at New Balance, and Adidas and FC Barcelona inspire equality.
